House Budget Resolution

Earlier this month, I shared with you that the House Budget Committee advanced a budget resolution that would cut federal spending, prevent your taxes from going up by as much as 22%, and prevent the record inflation levels we saw under the prior Administration.

This week, I am happy to share that this budget was passed through the House of Representatives. This legislation was a budget framework to set topline spending levels for fiscal Year 2025, it did not contain policy provisions. Now the House and Senate will work together to craft a bill that will support our veterans, maintain critical health care for those in need, and finally begin to get Washington's out-of-control spending in check.

Protecting Taxpayers from Rogue IRS Agents

In December 2024 during the lame duck period, the Biden Administration issued a rule that could drastically increase the number of fines the IRS levies against American taxpayers. Under this new rule, any IRS agent with supervisory authority could approve these fines. Think of it like this, if your child wanted a candy bar from the grocery store, under this new rule, they wouldn't have to ask for your permission, they could ask any other parent in the store for permission.

On Thursday, I introduced legislation that will overturn this rule and return us to a system where only direct supervisors have this authority. I am proud to share that this bill is supported by Americans for Tax Reform, the National Taxpayers Union, and the Taxpayers Protection Alliance, and is cosponsored by Congressmen Tom McClintock (R-CA) and Greg Steube (R-FL).

Unleashing America’s Workforce

On Wednesday, the House Education and Workforce Committee held its first workforce hearing of the 119th Congress, which contrasted the Biden-Harris administration’s heavy-handed mandates with President Trump’s promises to enact pro-growth policies.

Too many businesses are struggling to fill the millions of open positions in the United States. This ongoing worker shortage was exacerbated by COVID policies that rewarded Americans for staying home—and out of the workforce. Democrat “stimulus” spending hampered job creation, fueled a massive inflation crisis, and made more Americans dependent on the federal government.

I had a very meaningful meeting with the American Legion, where we examined the critical role of the VA's Transition Assistance Program (TAP). This essential program provides necessary guidance and support to veterans and their families as they navigate the challenges of transitioning from military to civilian life.
