Whole milk is a powerhouse of essential nutrients that provide our kids with the building blocks they need to live long, healthy lives. Unfortunately, unnecessary government restrictions have prohibited schools from serving certain types of milk because of federal one-size-fits-all regulations.
The reality is that, absent the availability of whole milk in school, students often turn to highly-caffeinated sugar-sweetened beverages with little nutritional value. Conversely, milk provides benefits that lower the risk for diabetes, cardiovascular disease, and obesity.
As a member of the House Committee on Education and the Workforce, I believe that empowering schools with the flexibility to serve nutritious whole milk is crucial for the health and well-being of our children. This week, I was proud to help secure the House passage of the bipartisan Whole Milk for Healthy Kids Act of 2023 that will put an end to unnecessary government red tape and provide our students with the nutrition they need to thrive.
