In the 118th Congress, the House of Representatives has the obligation to hold the Biden Administration accountable, restore fiscal responsibility, crack down on individuals trafficking deadly drugs, like fentanyl, and address the worsening crisis at our Southern border. Our first order of business, however, was to elect a House Speaker.
Over the past several weeks, many of my colleagues have had meetings with House leadership to discuss changes they would like to see instituted to House rules, procedures, and the role of the Speaker. This week, that culminated in five days of the House not coming to a resolution before finally electing Kevin McCarthy as our next Speaker early on Saturday morning.
Now, it is time to roll up our sleeves and start doing the job the American people elected us to do. I am ready to get to work for you and for the country.
