The Supreme Court's opinion in Dobbs v. Jackson marked a long-awaited, historic victory for the rights of millions of precious and innocent lives. In the Court's ruling to overturn Roe v. Wade, the Justices made the correct and much-needed decision by returning the question of abortion back to the states.

It is important for America to remember, when ultrasounds were practically unheard of, 47 states had made abortion illegal. Now, with accurate ultrasounds, it is clear to all Americans that unborn children are human beings. It could not be more evident that the practice of abortion is heinous and wrong because life begins at conception. 

Over the years, millions of children have had their dreams stolen before seeing the light of the day. But yesterday's decision marks a brighter future for the hearts and minds of unborn children, women, and families.

I commend the six Justices who voted to overturn Roe for having the courage to base their decision on sound legal principles rather than a fashionable line of thinking that rules academia, Hollywood, and the mainstream media.

As your Representative, there is nothing more special and worth fighting for than the miracle of life. Life, at all stages, is an extraordinary gift from God that we must cherish, not contest.

Last week, I let you know about a radical bill that was laid before the House Oversight Committee that would mandate the government question individuals regarding their sexuality and "gender identity" while demographic data is collected via federal surveys, like the Census or the National Survey on Children’s Health. This practice would apply to all Americans, including babies, toddlers, and anyone else under the age of 18. While I believe this bill is irredeemable and that the government has no business in this area, I proposed an amendment to this radical bill that would have stopped the government from asking these inappropriate questions to minors. However, my Democratic colleagues on the House Oversight Committee voted in unison against this commonsense measure to protect the innocence of children across the country. 

This week, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi brought the bill, the LGBTQI+ Data Inclusion Act, to the House floor for a vote.

In light of this vote, I did not give up on my effort to protect our children. In front of the House Rules Committee, I reintroduced my amendment in hopes that a different set of my colleagues would consider my revision to this disturbing bill. The sole intent of my amendment is to prevent the blatant sexualization of our children in the bill, which should be uncontroversial. Unfortunately, the Democrats on this Committee refused to even vote on this commonsense idea.

In one last effort to state the case for protecting children and toddlers from being questioned about their sexuality, I took to the House floor to speak against the bill during debate. Despite this, the bill passed the House on Thursday afternoon with every House Democrat voting in favor.

Although I believe this bill is so extreme that it is beyond repair, it was disheartening to see that my simple resolution to this ridiculous line of questioning by the government on federal surveys was repeatedly rejected by the Majority party. This legislation will now head to the Senate for consideration, where I hope my colleagues on the other side of the Capitol will have more sympathy toward children and not move forward with this bill.
