Grothman’s Letter to Sec. DeVos
Congressman Glenn Grothman (R-Glenbeulah) today, along with Elise Stefanik (R-NY), Ron Wright (R-TX), Chuck Fleischmann (R-TN), Mark Meadows (R-NC), Chris Stewart (R-UT), Doug Lamborn (R-CO) and Randy Weber (R-TX), sent a letter to Department of Education Secretary Betsy DeVos expressing compliance concerns with Title VI-funded Middle East Studies National Resource Centers (NRCs), given that many directors and faculty members of these centers have endorsed academic boycotts of Israel, which defy the purpose of the grant program.
The letter also requests the Secretary to continue the Department of Education’s oversight efforts to ensure NRCs are compliant with the statutory purposes and requirements of Title VI and for the Secretary to take proactive actions to ensure future NRC grantees make verifiable assurances that they will comply with the purposes of Title VI, including the enhancement of grant application requirements to include that applicants provide assurances that they will not implement an academic boycott of a country within their program or center’s purview.
U.S. Rep. Glenn Grothman is serving his third term representing Wisconsin’s 6th Congressional District in the U.S. House of Representatives.
