Congressman Glenn Grothman (R- Glenbeulah) released the following statement regarding today’s designation of the U.S. post office located in Fond du Lac, Wis. as the Lieutenant Colonel James “Maggie” Megellas Post Office: “I was proud to author this legislation in the U.S. House of Representatives, and to work with my colleague, Sen. Ron Johnson (R-Wis.), to see that Lieutenant Colonel Megellas is honored for his heroic acts during World War II,” said Congressman Grothman. “This Fond du Lac native and member of the Greatest Generation is a true American hero who faced unimaginable danger with bravery and distinction. I am honored to have a U.S. post office in my district named after him.” “Maggie” Megellas was born in Fond du Lac. Following his graduation from college in Ripon, Wis., Megellas accepted a commission in the U.S. Army, and participated in notable battle experiences including singlehandedly destroying a German Mark Five Panther Tank during the Battle of the Bulge, without a single American casualty. For his valor and leadership, Megellas was acknowledged as one of the most decorated officers in the 82nd Airborne Division and was discharged with the rank of captain. Megellas now lives in Colleyville, Texas with his wife. U.S. Rep. Glenn Grothman is serving his first term representing Wisconsin’s 6th Congressional District in the U.S. House of Representatives. ### |
