Today, Congressman Glenn Grothman (WI-06) reaffirmed his commitment to justice and the freedom of political expression. Grothman, joined by Congressman Tom Tiffany (WI-07), sent a letter to Milwaukee Mayor Tom Barrett and Milwaukee Police Department (MPD) Acting Chief Jeffrey Norman advising them to keep the investigation of the murder of Bernell Trammell a priority. Trammell was a deeply religious African American small business owner and supporter of former President Donald Trump. He was shot and killed on July 23, 2020 outside of his storefront. No suspects have been apprehended in this possibly politically-motivated murder. “It has been ten months since Mr. Trammell’s death and the Milwaukee Police Department has yet to apprehend his killer. We urge MPD and the city of Milwaukee to use all available resources to find Mr. Trammell’s killer and bring him to justice,” Grothman said in the letter. “It is shocking that this could happen in Milwaukee. No American should live in fear for expressing a political opinion…We hope the murder of Mr. Trammell continues to be of the upmost importance to MPD and the city of Milwaukee.” “Bernell Trammel was a hard-working person, and his loss has been devastating to his family,” said Grothman. “There are many questions surrounding his death because it appears to be politically motivated. Mr. Trammell deserves to be alive today and we owe it to him and his family to investigate this murder and its origins. “Killing an individual to suppress political activity before an election is something one would only expect in a third world country, not in the United States of America. It is my belief that, for whatever motivation, the killing of Mr. Trammell has not received the attention it deserves from city of Milwaukee government or the Wisconsin press corps. “We strongly urge Mayor Barrett and Acting Chief Norman to double-down on this investigation and solve this senseless murder.” Click here to read the full letter -30- U.S. Rep.
