Grothman Urges Support for Apprenticeships and CTE Programs

Congressman Glenn Grothman (R-Glenbeulah) recently rallied a bipartisan group of Wisconsin Congressmen to send a letter to House appropriators requesting strong support for apprenticeships and career and technical education (CTE) programs in the technology field in the FY18 appropriations package.

In 2016, the technology industry contributed roughly $1 trillion to the U.S. economy, employed nearly seven million Americans and added over 100,000 new jobs. However, the skilled-labor gap led to more than 600,000 unfilled jobs in the final quarter of 2016 alone. Grothman’s letter calls for thorough investment in vital apprenticeships and CTE programs to ensure the booming U.S. technology industry continues to grow.

“Increased focus on career and technical education is especially important for filling high-skill, in-demand jobs in fields like technology.” said Grothman.

“The technology industry relies on a workforce with a precise set of skills that does not necessarily require a four-year degree. In order to make sure this important industry continues to thrive, we must properly invest in technical education and apprenticeships to prepare individuals looking to break into the field.”

“As a member of the House Education and the Workforce Committee and representative of a district with such a high need for skilled labor, I can confidently say that investment in the technology industry will benefit not only Wisconsin, but the entire country.”
