Grothman Blasts EPA On New Ozone Standard

(Washington, D.C.) – Congressman Glenn Grothman (R-Glenbeulah) slammed the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) over a new rule regulating ozone. Today, the EPA issued a ruling that ozone emissions must be 70 ppb (parts per billion). The EPA proposed the new rule late last year moving from 75 ppb to 70 ppb. This kind of bureaucratic rule from the EPA will halt the expansion of businesses and job creation in Wisconsin.

“The Environmental Protection Agency couldn’t be more ignorant of America’s business owners and farmers,” said Congressman Grothman. “The EPA is demonstrating everything that Americans hate about big government. These burdensome regulations will only further stifle business growth and innovation in a sector that is already highly regulated. I will take every step possible to put Wisconsin businesses first, and ensure we push back on these new intrusions from the federal bureaucracy.”

The EPA set National Ambient Air Quality Standards, in particular ozone, at 120 parts per billion (ppb) in 1971, and now the EPA has proposed a new rule of 70 ppb set to take effect in October 2015, which cuts the standard nearly in half since 1971. By 2015, the EPA will have changed ozone standards more than five times. Changing it again will damage Wisconsin, specifically counties in the 6th Congressional District, disproportionately more than other states around the country. These regulations also put United States businesses at a comparative disadvantage globally, in particular with countries like China and Russia.

Congressman Grothman recently introduced the Manufacturer’s First Act to push back on the EPA’s attack on American businesses. Click here to view a copy of H.R. 2792.
