Congressman Glenn Grothman (R-Glenbeulah) released the following statement praising the return of the Roth family to the United States.

“When Samuel Roth contacted my office, I told my staff that getting his family home safely is our priority,” said Grothman. “Both my staff and I were in communication with State Department officials and two U.S. Embassies in China, doing all we could do make sure Daisy and the children were removed from harm’s way as soon as possible. The State Department came through on their promise that bringing the Roth family home would be one of their top priorities, and for that, I am truly thankful.

I kept the Roth family in my prayers during this process and am glad that they are back on American soil, just days away from coming home to Neenah.

President Trump has been working diligently with the Chinese government to both contain the outbreak and bring Americans, like the Roth family, home. I thank President Trump for his continued commitment to making Americans’ safety a priority.”

Background
Neenah, WI’s Samuel Roth contacted Congressman Grothman’s office seeking help for his wife, Daisy, and two young daughters, a five-year-old and a 10-month-old. They were visiting family in Wuhan, China, where they were being quarantined during the deadly Coronavirus outbreak and unable to travel back home to the United States.

Shortly after first learning of the Roth’s situation, Congressman Grothman’s office contacted and received information back from both the U.S. State Department and the U.S. Embassy in Beijing on the next steps in the process of coming home.

On Wednesday, January 29, 2020, Congressman Grothman attended a special briefing on the Coronavirus outbreak with CDC, HHS and State Department officials in the Capitol for Members of Congress. After the briefing, he spoke with several high-level State Department officials about the Roth family’s situation and what they, and he, could do to expedite their trip home. The State Department officials, Legislative Management Officer Wendy Kennedy and Deputy Assistant Secretary Karin King, informed Congressman Grothman that they were already aware of the Roth family’s situation and that they were a top priority because of the ages of their children.

After several days of back and forth with the State Department and U.S. Embassies, Samuel received confirmation that Daisy and his children were cleared to travel back to the U.S. and had seats on the flight leaving on Tuesday, February 4, 2020.
