Rep. Fischbach Introduces Protecting Life and Taxpayers Act

By: Congresswoman Michelle Fischbach

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, Congresswoman Michelle Fischbach (MN-7) introduced the Protecting Life and Taxpayers Act of 2021. The bill prohibits organizations that perform abortions from receiving federal funding.

“Expecting taxpayers to foot the bill for a procedure many find morally reprehensible is callous, at best. This legislation establishes a firewall between federal spending and the abortion industry – as it should be,” said Congresswoman Fischbach. “There are many wonderful organizations that provide health care for women that can, and will, still receive federal funding. But organizations that capitalize on the heartbreak of women as they line their own pockets have no businesses being funded by the government.”

The legislation prohibits entities from being eligible for federal funding unless they certify they do not perform abortions and that they will not provide funds to entities that perform abortions.

“For decades, far-left organizations have propped up the abortion industry and weaponized the issue of life for political gain. I believe all life should be respected, and that’s why this legislation is so important,” said Congresswoman Fischbach.

The legislation is cosponsored by Vicky Hartzler (MO-04), Steve Scalise (LA-01), Robert Aderholt (AL-04), Jody Hice (GA-10), Andy Biggs (AZ-05), Doug LaMalfa (CA-01), Tracey Mann (KC-01), Rick Allen (GA-12), Buddy Carter (GA-01), Mario Diaz-Balart (FL-25), John Mooney (WV-02), Richard Hudson (NC-08), Trent Kelly (MS-01), Gus Bilirakis (FL-12), Jeff Duncan (SC-03), Brian Babin (TX-36), Mary Miller (IL-15), Ronny Jackson (TX-13), Michael Waltz (FL-06), Lauren Boebert (CO-03), Jake LaTurner (KS-02), Tom Emmer (MN-06), Lisa McClain (MI-10), John Rose (TN-06), Andy Harris (MD-01), Debbie Lesko (AZ-08), Glenn Grothman (WI-06), Ted Budd (NC-13), Burgess Owens (UT-04), and Pete Stauber (MN-08).
