Today, Congressman Glenn Grothman (R-Glenbeulah) released the following statement after President Joe Biden’s State of the Union Address: “I was surprised that President Biden did not introduce any initiatives to reduce the number of people coming across the border. The increase in the number of people illegally crossing the southern border and remaining in the country from monthly flows of 20,000 just a few years ago to over 350,000 recently occurred not because of inaction by Congress, but by the dismantling of proven border security policies by executive action. We could return to these lower levels with President Biden reinstating some of the policies he unilaterally overturned, such as the Stay in Mexico policy and declaring an emergency at the border. However, he won't do it,” said Congressman Glenn Grothman. “President Biden bragged about inflation, but he didn’t acknowledge that inflation is caused by increased spending. Instead, he rattled off eight or nine new spending ramps, which will only drive us further into debt, inflation, and higher interest rates. This is why housing is quickly becoming beyond the reach of the middle class.” “He said other things that I think were meant for the public to misunderstand in order to advance partisanship. When he talked about Republicans being in favor of book burning, he was actually advocating for sexually graphic books for elementary school students. This is the one type of book that Republicans oppose, and to attack Republicans while advocating for these sexually explicit books to be accessible to children is absurd. President Biden also endorsed a very dangerous bill called the Pro Act, which would mandate unionization votes within two weeks of filing. Businesses across the country would be required to disclose employees' private information so they could be pressured into joining unions through a card check system, which is not conducted by a closed ballot. This would fundamentally alter the American economy and has not received as much press coverage as it deserves." “President Biden didn't address the flaws in the American welfare system, which are significantly undermining the American family and eroding the country's work ethic.” |
