Grothman Says “Doc-Fix” Should Not Go On The Federal Credit Card
Washington,
March 26, 2015
(Washington, D.C.) – U.S. Rep. Glenn Grothman (R-Wisconsin) released the following statement after voting against the permanent Sustainable Growth Rate (SGR) bill known as the “doc-fix” on the House Floor Thursday.
“The SGR has been in place since 1997, and from the time this policy was enacted, Congress has passed temporary patches to stop health care professional payment cuts from taking effect. Congress has continually kicked the can down the road by refusing to address the real problem. Congress not only needs to create a more stable Medicare system that works to rein in health care costs and create better value-based systems, but also ensure that a “doc fix” is paid for with true offsets. I came to Congress to help balance the federal budget and make sure we don’t burden the American people with more debt,” said Congressman Grothman. “Washington needs to be more creative in finding ways to fix problems without having to pull out the credit card every time.” Please see this article from National Review Online, “The SGR Fix Will Bust the Budget” that explains more about why SGR should have been paid for with true offsets, rather than increased federal spending. U.S. Rep. Glenn Grothman is serving his first term representing Wisconsin’s 6th Congressional District in the U.S. House of Representatives.
