Congressman Glenn Grothman (R-WI) released the following statement in support of President-Elect Trump’s pledge to tariff Mexico, Canada and China to protect our border and stop drug trafficking into the United States.  

"I fully support President-Elect Trump's proposed aggressive economic measures against Mexico, Canada, and China, driven by serious concerns over our border security and the rampant drug trafficking that has plagued our nation," said Congressman Grothman. "Under the Biden-Harris Administration, other countries have exploited our open borders, flooding the United States with drugs, criminals, and unsafe practices. These reckless policies have led to countless deaths, including the tragic loss of American lives due to fentanyl and other drug overdoses—over 100,000 two years in a row—and spikes in violent crimes committed by illegal migrants.  

“The American people deserve better, and President-Elect Trump's leadership offers a clear path to restoring safety and sovereignty. It is time we played hardball and save American lives and culture. These proposed tariffs will not only hold these countries accountable but also strengthen the U.S. economy by ensuring that our borders are secure, and our communities are protected. This is a start to reducing crime and saving American culture. With these economic actions, the U.S. will no longer be a haven for criminals and drug traffickers, but rather a nation where law and order prevail, and the well-being of its citizens is prioritized."
