Grothman’s Statement on President Trump’s Reinstatement of Military Servicemembers Discharged for Not Getting COVID-19 Vaccine

Congressman Glenn Grothman (WI-06) released the following statement after President Trump signed an Executive Order to allow military servicemembers who were discharged under the Biden Administration for not receiving the COVID-19 vaccine to reinstate with their former rank and receive full back pay and benefits.

“In his first week back in office, President Trump has kept his promises and delivered dozens of policy wins, said Grothman. “Today, I applaud the President for offering reinstatement to the military servicemembers who were wrongfully discharged under the Biden Administration simply for following their beliefs. What’s worse, their discharge appears to have been politically motivated, as they were released from duty during a period when the military was missing recruitment goals by tens of thousands of soldiers.

“Reinstating these troops has long been a goal of mine. There was no shortage of experts on both sides of this issue, so President Biden had no business second-guessing our military servicemembers who had reviewed medical information at the time and decided not to take the vaccine. Since the COVID-19 vaccines were rolled out, the President’s HHS nominee himself, Robert F. Kennedy Jr., was skeptical of them.

“I don’t believe it is right to force someone to do something they oppose in order to keep their job. This was wrong in the military and wrong in the private sector. I hope that all businesses who terminated people because they would not get the COVID-19 vaccine will follow the lead of President Trump and reinstate these employees.”
