For the first time in American history, the Speaker of the House, Congressman Kevin McCarthy (R-CA), was removed from his role as the presiding officer of the United States House of Representatives. He was removed with the votes of every House Democrat along with a small minority of Congressmen in the Republican Conference.
I did not support this unprecedented measure because the House of Representatives has much work to do to balance the budget, secure the southern border, and undo other detrimental fiscal and social policies instituted by the Biden Administration. Without a Speaker, that work will be delayed indefinitely.
Moving forward, I will be actively engaged in conversations with my fellow Members of Congress to ensure that our new Speaker is committed to the principles of fiscal responsibility, veterans' care, and border security. I will also continue to listen to your feedback and concerns, as your input is invaluable in shaping our approach to these critical issues.
